White or Gold. Fabrication.

I followed my usual workout routine  last week.

Motivated or not/discipline is the key.

If you want results; you got to put in the work.

I mean; I choose to.

I later also visited my jeweler.

Sounds like I consult lavish professionals; it’s not quite like that.

Let me explain.

A few years back, a beloved necklace needed some care.

I had previously noticed a jewelry store in the neighborhood while walking my dog and so one particular evening; I finally walked in and exposed the needed repair.

I appreciated the efficient service and the affordable fee.

Also, the man who actually fixed my necklace; was quite friendly and knowledgeable.

Ever since: I go back.

A modest purchase here, some earrings there and another jewelry touch-up.

Last week, I consulted my bijou guy for a custom made piece.

Yesterday, a lady called to inform me that my accessory was ready.

I asked for yellow gold, a simple cut; it’s my personal style.

Before picking up my son at daycare, I stopped by the jewelry store.

Here’s the workout loop.

Or the lie scoop.

You be the snoop.

As always, my jeweler greeted me with a huge smile.

He walked over and inquired about my welldoing and my day.

-”I’m doing good! I enjoy the sunny sky. It helps my energy. How are you feeling today?”

He responds that he is doing absolutely terrific.

He explains that he recently got a new treadmill strategically placed by his television. Comfortable, easy access, great machine and beneficial setting.

He vows that he is committed to a new resolution: working out everyday.

No exception.

He also mentions that exercising has never been part of his lifestyle hence, it will now.

He tells me that he walks on the machine for 35 minutes while watching his favorite TV show.

Every night while enjoying a popular series, he vows that he loses two thousand calories on the treadmill machine.

-“I feel good, it’s so important” he articulates as he pulls my new piece out of a plastic bag.

 Oh wow.

It looks perfect. Nice size and great detail. I’m glad.

This said; I hear a loud siren in my “in-box”.

It’s piercing, it gets my total focus; it’s obnoxious.

Lies, lies, lies!

Alexa, impossible!

I suggest to myself: “let’s just chill; it’s his truth.”

I hear my inner Ego: -“Gnumm, gruhhhhm, Excuse me. Excuse us. We push ourselves during most workouts and we watch people exercising every week. Two thousand calories in 35 minutes while walking? Absolutely no way!”

I try to quiet the loud holla in my mind as I look at the older, softer and so very amicable jeweler. Alex, relax.

Why care?

Damn.

This inner chatter is pretty loud.

That calorie total?

I don’t think so.

I view my effort playbacks for even a quarter of that calorie count and trust:  it’s quite rigorous.

I see.

Heavy metals.

Delicate stones.

Yellow and white gold.

Light diamonds and pure tones.

Heavy white lie?

I discern.

Two thousand too much.

Why so and nice silvers.

Who knows. Go figure.

A manufactured result by a talented builder.

Why the unnecessary fabrication?

For his personal validation? To make conversation? To impress me?

Two minutes of this conversation; is enough.

I open my wallet and request the creation fee.

I’m kinda disappointed but I also recognize this is absolutely not; about me.

It probably stems from an ego scratch.

Often enough I can recall: standing or sitting across someone and carefully following their trail of words.

I go where you draw.

Here? Yes.

Around there? Ok.

And then what happened?

Back over here? Right.

The treadmill exercise, the pretty girlfriend, the extra bonus? Really, wow.

I pay attention, I follow.

And then – huh hun: yup.

Only to find myself in a bed of lies.

Exaggerated accomplishment or foolish explanation.

Every single time, I question: why?

Most times; I hold back any comment.

I just go along the conversation road.

I let it roll, it’s your choice.

Only if I truly care about our relationship; will I verbalize my discomfort and my notice of the processed reality.

Yah.

So nah.

In this case; I congratulate him, pay my due, pick up my new accessory and walk out.

I feel slightly mocked; but I refuse to invest time or effort highlighting the obvious fib.

Not sure why he fibbed/I’ll leave the lie cribbed.

Stretched truths; don’t rest well with me.
